The Brazilian government has formed a new company
called Natex
that produces 100% natural eco condoms by harvesting natural
rubber from rubber trees found in the Amazon Jungle. Brazil being
the largest single buyer of condoms in the world decided that it
was more economical to produce a product from available natural
resources than to rely on imports from foreign countries. Brazil
has been importing condoms and distributing them free of charge
as an effort to fight the spread of AIDS and HIV. By creating
their own state run condom manufacturing plant, Brazil has been
able to become less reliant on imports while at the same time
create new jobs in a small struggling Amazon town in the North of
Brazil. They claim that these are the only condoms in the world
made 100% from natural rain forest.
